About Us

The Energy Shop opened for business in 1979 as a solar water heater contractor and has since moved into Photovoltaics (Solar Energy). We are locally owned and operated in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. We also distribute other energy saving products such as windows, doors and skylights.

 

PV Basics

​

Solar panels generate DC electricity that is fed through electrical conductors to your inverter which inverts the DC electricity into household ready AC electricity. With a grid-tied solar energy system, any extra electricity that is not consumed by the household, is fed back into the grid and is accounted for with a dual flow meter. Your retail electric provider will then buy back this surplus electricity at a predetermined rate.

 

Solar Tax Credits

The federal ITC was originally established by the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and was set to expire at the end of 2007. A series of extensions pushed the expiration date back to the end of 2016, but experts believed that an additional five-year extension would bring the solar industry to its full maturity. Thanks to the spending bill that Congress passed in August of 2022, the tax credit is now available to homeowners in some form through 2032. Here are the specifics:

• Through 12/31/2032: Residential homeowners who install a photovoltaic solar energy system on their primary residence, will be eligible to receive a federal income tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of the new system.
